Eagle Hunters Winter Migration Photography Tour in Mongolia
Join a once-in-a-lifetime Eagle Hunters Winter Migration Photography Tour across Western Mongolia. Explore the remote Altai Mountains alongside Kazakh eagle hunters and nomadic herders during their awe-inspiring seasonal migration. This immersive journey is crafted for photographers and adventurers seeking to document a vanishing way of life through their lens.
Explore the Winter Migration with Nomadic Herders and Eagle Hunters
Discover the fascinating lifestyle of Mongolia’s nomadic herders and Kazakh Eagle Hunters. These communities have preserved their ancient customs for centuries—centered around Golden Eagle hunting, livestock herding, and living in harmony with the harsh but beautiful environment.
On this Eagle Hunters Winter Migration Photography Tour, you'll follow families as they migrate through snow-covered valleys, frozen rivers, and rugged mountain passes, providing rare photographic opportunities that blend culture, nature, and endurance.
A True Winter Photography Expedition
During the migration, you will trek and ride alongside the families across tundra-like landscapes and frozen terrain. Expect dramatic, natural backdrops and close-up moments with the eagle hunters and their majestic birds. Temperatures can range from -8°C to -18°C during the day (20°F to 0°F), and drop further at night. Altitudes range from 1,500 to 2,000 meters.
But don’t worry—our Eagle Hunters Winter Migration Photography Tour is fully supported by a skilled local crew. You'll travel in heated 4x4 vehicles and rest in warm, insulated ger tents equipped for both sleeping and dining.
Dedicated Support Vehicles for Comfort & Photography Access
To make your journey more seamless, we include two 24/7 support vehicles. These serve not only as mobile warm-up stations during long days but also as strategic positioning tools to help you get the best photographic angles of the migration.
Each day’s migration covers 14–18 kilometers. The vehicles allow you to take breaks or reposition for unique photo ops—without disrupting the rhythm of the herders.
Exclusive Photo Sessions with Eagle Hunters
In addition to following the migration, you'll enjoy curated portrait sessions with up to three eagle hunter families. These sessions are designed for photographers to capture authentic, artistic imagery in natural settings, both during and outside of travel days.
Expect powerful imagery: eagles poised on gloved arms, children helping prepare for the journey, and elderly hunters sharing stories by the stove.
Final Days: Landscape Photography in the Altai Mountains
Our tour concludes with 2 days dedicated to pure landscape photography. You'll base yourself near a breathtaking lakeside location in the Altai range—one of Mongolia’s most visually stunning areas.
These final days offer serenity, reflection, and a final opportunity to shoot golden light over icy valleys and peaks.
