Mongolian Nomadic Family Homestay

Exploring Nomadic Life in Western Mongolia's Bayan-Olgiy Province

Embark on a journey to Western Mongolia, where the Bayan-Olgiy province unfolds its unparalleled landscapes and reveals the distinctive cultures of Kazakh, Uriankhai, and Tuvan nomads, who have gracefully inhabited this region for centuries.

Everyday Nomadic Life

The heartbeat of daily life for these nomadic people revolves around herding, a vital occupation that dictates their rhythm. Their nomadic lifestyle sees them on the move multiple times a year, as they follow the lush mountain pastures during the warm seasons of summer and autumn. In the cooler seasons of winter and spring, they retreat to warm shelters downhill.

Local Family Dynamics

The fabric of community is woven through familial bonds, with most families forming cohesive units known as "aol." These groups consist of four to six families, fostering a close-knit communal spirit. During their transitions between locations, these families maintain continuity by staying in familiar spots. Their days are filled with traditional tasks such as crafting felt, spinning wool, producing dairy items, milking animals, gathering firewood, brushing cashmere, and shearing sheep.

Join the Nomadic Experience

Embark on a unique adventure with us as we offer an exclusive opportunity to experience nomadic family life, particularly with the Kazakhs. Our journey extends beyond Bayan-Olgiy, reaching into the last remaining reindeer herder tribes of Northern Mongolia. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of nomadic traditions and connect with a way of life that has stood the test of time.

Nomads

Mongolian Nomads learn to ride as soon as they can walk to a horse. Mongolian horses are semi wild, short, and tough. According to history, the great Chingis Khan conquered the world while riding these horses.

Livestock such as goats, sheep, cows, horses, camels, and yaks have supported these people for thousands of years and they continue to be interconnected with one another.
